Finally, for real this time – Back to School

May 23rd. That’s the date. That’s when the summer semester begins. I’m so nervous. My classes are Intro to Java Programming and Microcomp Applications. The names of the courses have me intimidated and I haven’t opened up a book or looked at a syllabus. Seriously. It’s been so long since I’ve been in school.

Classes are paid for (grant). Check. Babysitter scheduled (One of the classes is from 8pm to 10pm, two days a week). Check. Books. Oops. I haven’t gotten that taken care of yet.

1st book. $172.60 new. 2nd book.$144.35 new. Yikes! Can’t afford either one, let alone both! I think they forgot that I’m a single mom on a single income. Or maybe they don’t care. Either way – I need books, and I have 2 weeks to come up with a solution.

The $172 book? It’s a version made specifically for my school. Figures. I’ve just sent an email to a former student who was selling it for $75. Hopefully it’s still for sale.

The $144 book? I’ve found a place that will rent textbooks to you for the term. This book will cost me about $48 for the summer semester. That’s so much better than $144. I’m not sure that it wouldn’t be better for me to just find it used, but for less than $50 I’m willing to rent it, and then determine if I’ll need to refer to it again after the term is over.

What do you think? Would you rent a textbook to save money on the outrageous costs of new, and even used, ones?

”"I just realized a efw days ago that 3 of my 4 lemon trees are at the beginning stages of forming lemons! I'm so excited! I thought it would have been sooner,  since the flowers have been falling off the stems since February. It looks like they'll each produce over 20 lemons, and I will produce at least 35. The last tree I didn't bring in over the winter, and I wasn't sure if it would make it. Well, that 4th tree is flowering right now and had over 20 flowers so it should be a good producer as well.

If only the lime tree and strawberries would start looking alive. Oh, well, you can't win them all.

”"But now that I'm starting to see results, I'm excited for the plants and trees to keep up the momentum. So I want to make sure they're fed properly to keep growing. And since I'm all about natural and organic, I can't trust just any plant food. So I am happy to learn that Whitney Farms® has a full line of 100% organic plant food and organic soil with no additives and nothing artifical.

It's important to me to use products that complement our natural life. So plant foods specially formulated to help my fruits grow using special microbes, odorless compounds, and that are easy to use are right up my alley.

#review and #giveaway of exergen thermometer

About the Exergen Temporal Scanner

It is an infrared thermometer that captures temperature by scanning the heat that comes off the forehead (via the temporal artery).  This scanner is extremely useful and convenient because:

*It is non-invasive, easy-to-use (only takes 2 seconds) and extremely accurate.

*It will help parents avoid the painful experience of taking their sick child’s temperature rectally and uncomfortably.

*It merely takes two seconds and a gentle swipe, so parents can even check a sleeping child’s temperature.

My Thoughts on the Exergen Temporal Scanner

I needed this. I always lose the little thermometers. I never do find them (or the probe covers). And, when the pediatrician asks me if the girls have a fever and what’s their temperature – I’m never able to answer. Never. Cause I don’t know.

It does take a bit to get used to, but since the directions are on the back (facing you when you’re using the thermometer on your child), you’ll be able to *remind* yourself easily. You actually put the scanner on your child’s forehead while you’re pressing the on button. You then slide the probe across their forehead and release the button. When you turn it back over, the temperature is on the display. To turn it off, just press the button again.

Now I have a good-sized thermometer in my medicine basket chest, so it should never got lost. I don’t need any probes. It’s easy to use. I won’t have a hard time getting my girls to use it, and for those of you with babies there shouldn’t be any tears. Plus, it’s accurate.

Avoiding Hair Loss

I remember when I was pregnant both times and my hair was long and silky (the silky part was the help of the relaxer). And I remember being told that after I gave birth and stopped taking the prenatals, which all my hair would start falling out. I was devastated to hear that news. All my pretty, long hair. Gone! I was not ready for that to happen. So I began to research solutions for hair loss in women. One of the easiest options for me was to simply continue taking the prenatals. Since I nursed both girls, I wanted to continue with those good vitamins anyway. My doctor was okay with that and extended my prescription. For me, this solution worked. By the time I stopped taking the vitamins my body was well-adjusted to no longer being pregnant so it wasn’t a huge deal to stop taking the pills.

Currently, since all 3 of us use hair oils, I make up our own mixes. I combine good oils with some beeswax to make it easier to keep without spilling it all over the place. I include rosemary which is supposed to be good for hair growth. I make sure we shampoo and condition our hair regularly, and we also use hair barrettes which don’t pull our hair out.

So I think I’ve got the hair loss issue conquered. Now to work on these gray hairs I keep seeing everywhere…
