I hate to shop. I shop when I need something specific. Like a pair of shoes for work. Or a dress for a wedding. Or school supplies for the girls.
I like to take a list, and I don’t like to dilly-dally.
Especially when grocery shopping – I want to go up and down each aisle, cross off the items on my list as I add them to my cart (while I’m mentally keeping tally of the total spent), and move on towards the next item.
But the thing that matters most to me at a grocery store?
I want the store to be clean and clutter-free. When the store itself is in good condition, it makes me think they take care of their products well. It makes me think the food items are fresh, the employees care about their workplace and their customers, and that they want me to come back.
Well, I got that feeling when I visited a Food Lion in Rock Hill, SC. The store was recently remodeled, it was very clean (including the restrooms and I’m picky about restrooms), and the employees were nice when directing me back to the items I missed on my shopping list.
I was able to get 10 4-packs of Angel Soft toilet tissue for $5 plus tax. They were on sale for $1 each, plus there was a special that you get $5 off when you buy 10 items. I was so excited! Over toilet paper. I know. Lame. The toilet paper is still in my trunk since I have no place to put all those rolls.
The girls and I were shopping for ingredients for dinner and dessert for this trip. We had meatloaf, Stouffer’s macaroni and cheese, and a homemade apple pie for dessert. All 3 were at hit!
Here’s the meatloaf recipe:
|1/2 cp Ketchup||1/4 cp Brown Sugar||1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce||1 1/2 lb Lean Ground Beef|
|1/2 cp Evaporated Milk||1 Egg||1 1/2 tsp Kosher Salt||1 sm Onion|
|2 clv Garlic||1/4 tsp Ground Ginger||1 cp Bread Crumbs|
- 1. PREHEAT oven to 350° and lightly grease a 5×9 inch loaf pan.
- 2. In a mixing bowl, mix thoroughly all meatloaf ingredients and shape into a loaf.
- 3. Mix the sauce ingredients together and spoon on top. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour and drain the grease in the pan twice during baking time.
Although Courtney didn’t like shopping at the grocery store, she liked eating dinner that night. And since both girls helped make the apple pie, they couldn’t wait to eat it. The only thing missing was the ice cream, because I forgot to add it to my shopping list…
