About A Giraffe Did One by Jerry Pallotta
A worm did it underground.
A bird did it in the air.
A bear did it on the hilltop.
A whale did it deep in the water.
Walking, running, skipping, or jumping. Sometime, somewhere, someone around the world is doing this. Maybe even you! So, what can it be?
Young readers will giggle and smirk as they try to guess just exactly what it is that these animals are doing. And, the ending may just surprise them!
Jerry Pallotta’s book Who Will Plant a Tree? was awarded a National Parenting Publications Gold Award and named a USA Book News Best Book. He lives in Boston, Massachusetts.
Tatjana Mai-Wyss’s books include Whole-y Cow: Fractions Are Fun and My Teacher Dances on the Desk. She lives in South Carolina.
Our Thoughts on A Giraffe Did One by Jerry Pallotta
This is hilarious. The author describes something that so many animals do – that they all have in common. Completely different animals and bugs and even kids do this. But not the tree and the flower – they’re left out. What could it be? The girls and I guessed, and none of us were correct! There really only are two guesses, but I guessed the grosser of the two and the girls were way off.
We couldn’t wait to get through the story so we could find out just what all these animals (and people and bugs) have in common. It’s a surprise, silly ending to a very funny picture book. I think your kindergartener will enjoy this book just as much as mine did. I think what she liked most was that between the repetitive words and the clues from the illustrations, she was able to read the sentences with just a little bit of help.
