Review and Giveaway: Sid the Science Kid: Weather Kid Sid

DVD: Sid the Science Kid: Weather Kid Sid

Running Time: 115 minutes (approximately)

Price: $12.99

We love PBS at our house. We really do. I love it for the educational content. My daughters love it cause the shows are fun. One of the PBS shows we watch is Jim Henson’s Sid the Science Kid.

We had the opportunity to review the DVD Weather Kid Sid. It’s timely because one of the four episodes, Special Sunny Dad Day, explains the importance of sun protection, and with summer right around the corner (or right outside if you’re in South Carolina like we are where it’s almost 90 degrees every day!), this is important. The other three episodes teach about clouds, water vapor, rain, the sun, and the wind. I think my girls have gotten an education on the weather that I didn’t receive until I was in about the third grade!

Our Thoughts

The girls have already watched the DVD twice. That’s how much they like it. My oldest, 6 year old Lulu, liked the part about the sunscreen the best, and reminded me before our zoo trip on Monday (it was only 70 degrees that day, thank goodness) that we both needed sunscreen. My 4 year old, Coco, liked learning about the clouds and the rain the best. See, there’s something for everybody!

About the Show

Sid the Science Kid is created for 3–6-year-old children. The television series, which airs in the U.S. on PBS KIDS®, has garnered several accolades including two Daytime Emmy Award nominations, Common Sense Media’s Best 2008 series for children 4-years old, and a Parents’ Choice 2009 Recommendation.

Developed to inspire a lifelong curiosity and love for learning in young children, Sid the Science Kid appeals to preschoolers’ instinctive quest to figure out how things work, using humor and music as key teaching tools. Sid, the show’s energetic and inquisitive “star,” starts each episode with a new question and embarks on a fun-filled day of finding answers, inspiring preschoolers at home to think about how to find answers to their own questions. The conceptual content of Sid the Science Kid is based in national science learning standards, cognitive learning theory, and on the preschool science curriculum, Preschool Pathways to Science (PrePSTM).

You can read more about Sid the Science Kid and sunscreen over at PBS.
